KS&G’s Labor and Employment Group counsels and represents management in a broad range of labor and employment matters. This area of practice provides practical and proactive advice to assist clients in accomplishing their employment objectives while minimizing the risks or occurrence of employment-related litigation. We have organized our practice under three broad rubrics -- Education, Compliance and Advocacy.

We believe that education is the starting point for avoiding liability.  We want our clients to understand their rights and obligations in the work place.  Examples of our educational efforts include drafting employee handbooks, workplace policies, and employment contracts, and providing training seminars for supervisors and managers.

We assist owners in complying with the law.  Sound planning is the watchword for successful business.  We draft non-compete, confidentiality and no solicitation agreements to help business owners ensure their secrets remain secret. We provide counsel with transitional issues such as the purchase or sale of a business, employee termination, counter union organizing and labor negotiations.

Finally, we are advocates, defending our clients from administrative claims and lawsuits.  On any given day, you will find our attorneys appearing before mediators, arbitrators, administrative agencies or trial or appellate courts.  Our lawyers have a reputation for zealously and ethically representing the interests of our clients.

We are knowledgeable about the Hawaii business environment.  We represent a spectrum of Hawaii’s businesses, including the visitor industry, the construction industry, government contractors, financial institutions, schools and universities, utilities and healthcare professionals. We have spent our careers in Hawaii and know our professional colleagues, adversaries and regulators on a first name basis.  Our lawyers are experts.  They are national speakers, published authors and have their names associated with transformational appellate decisions.
