Mr. Fuji joined the law firm that
is today Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda in 1986, following
graduation from law school. Prior to attending law
school, he was a high school social studies teacher at
Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was also
the tennis team coach and student counsel advisor.
Mr. Fuji received a Bachelors
degree in United States History and a Masters degree in
Educational Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and his Juris
Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings
College
of the Law. Mr.
Fuji's practice is concentrated in the area of commercial
litigation with an emphasis on matters related to insurance
law, torts, and commercial contracts and leases. He represents clients
in civil trials in both the State and Federal District Courts
in Hawaii, and in arbitrations
and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He also serves as an
arbitrator in the State of Hawaii's Court Annexed
Arbitration program and has presented seminars on torts and
various insurance subjects.
Mr. Fuji advises and represents
insurance companies, policyholders and the Insurance
Commissioner of the State of Hawaii on special
cases. He has
been retained as special counsel in complex litigation matters
related to the insolvency and rehabilitation and liquidation
of insurance companies.
In his role as co-lead counsel to the Liquidator of
these insolvent insurance companies, he has helped recover
over $20 million in assets for distribution to creditors.
Mr. Fuji is a member of the Hawaii
State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Defense
Research Institute and the Association of Trial Lawyers of
America. He is
licensed to practice in all of the state and federal courts in
Hawaii, the
United
States Court of Appeals for
the Ninth Circuit and the United States Court of Federal
Claims. |
