Ms. Oh has broad
experience in all aspects of immigration and nationality law,
and has been selected and listed nationally in the “Best
Lawyers in America” in the
field of Immigration Law. In 2008, she was the
only attorney from the State of Hawaii
on the nationwide “Hawaii Super Lawyers” listing in the field
of immigration. Her law practice
focuses on employment-related immigration, with an emphasis on
issues affecting business managers and executives, investors,
professional or specialty occupation workers in all fields,
hi-tech personnel, researchers and health care professionals.
She represents
both businesses and individuals in processing visas at U.S.
Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Her practice also
includes advising on training and exchange programs, assisting
educational institutions and their students, defending
employer sanction cases under the Immigration Reform &
Control Act of 1986, assisting employers on worksite
enforcement issues, and advising on eligibility for and
maintaining Permanent Resident status and requirements for
naturalization to U.S. citizenship.
Ms. Oh’s activities
in the field of immigration include policy development and
liaison leadership at local, regional and national levels.
In 2001, she
became President of the American Immigration Lawyers
Association (AILA)-Hawaii Chapter. She was appointed in
recent years as the Chair for the California Service Center
(INS)-AILA Liaison Committee. She has served also on
national committees for AILA, including the Benefits Policy
Liaison Committee which dialogues directly on behalf of over
10,000 immigration lawyers with the Headquarters of the
Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) that has been
reorganized under the Department of Homeland Security. In 2007-2009, Ms. Oh’s
activities include offering analysis and recommendations for
the Department of Homeland Security Administrative Appeals
Office (AAO) in improving more efficiency and coordination in
both substantive and procedural matters. She is currently
serving on AILA’s Business Immigration Committee. Ms. Oh has been invited
to lecture on new federal regulations and strategy development
for efficient processing to a wide range of audiences,
including annual conferences for the American Immigration
Lawyers Association and for the National Advisors of the
Foreign Students Association (NAFSA). For several years, she
appeared as a panel member of immigration law advocates on the
“You and the Law” popular local television series. She has also
contributed articles to Matthew Bender’s Immigration Bulletin
on business immigration.
Ms. Oh’s practice is
proactive in expanding areas and changes in law, including
EB-5 job creation investment law, Guam-CNMI visa issues, Child
Status Protection Act, E-Verify and many other
areas.
Ms. Oh joined
Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda in 1995. Prior to that, she
commenced her legal career as an associate in the Finance,
Real Estate and Tax Departments at the Honolulu
firm of Cades, Schutte, Fleming & Wright. In 1993, Ms. Oh joined
the Dallas firm of Gardere &
Wynne, L.L.P., where she concentrated in employment-based
immigration as a member of the Labor and Employment Practice
Group.
Ms. Oh has been
appointed as chair to develop two trade missions to
Korea with the
State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development
and Tourism (DBEDT). She has also served on
the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Korean Chamber of
Commerce. Since
2003, she was elected twice, and serves as an active Director
of the national Board of Governors for the American
Immigration Lawyers Association, which has a membership of
over 10,000 immigration attorneys. Ms. Oh is currently a
member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
She has also been
a member of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, the National Advisors
of Foreign Students Association, the Hawaii State Bar
Association, the American Bar Association-Health Law Section
and the American Health Lawyers Association. She is currently
Vice-President and will be President for Hawaii Women Lawyers
in 2010.
