Mr. Smith has been a
partner at Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda since 1988. He has been invited to
present seminars to industry groups respecting Hawaii
corporate law, antitrust developments and several other
business topics.
Mr. Smith has represented
clients in a wide range of commercial litigation, in federal
and state courts, including class action litigation,
antitrust, mergers and acquisitions, contractual and other
commercial disputes, copyright and intellectual property. He counsels clients on
competition issues, including pricing, distribution, mergers,
acquisitions, joint ventures and other business
transactions. He
has represented clients in dealing with the Antitrust Division
of the United States Department of Justice, the State of
Hawaii Office of Attorney General, grand jury and other
investigations.
He has considerable experience in representing clients
in administrative proceedings before numerous governmental
agencies and in arbitrations and other forms of alternative
dispute resolution.
Mr. Smith has a substantial appellate practice, having
argued numerous cases before the United States Court of
Appeals for the Ninth Circuit as well as the appellate courts
of the State of Hawaii.
Mr. Smith is proficient in
the Russian language and is an active participant in the
Hawaii Bar Association as well as the international law, real
property and antitrust sections of the American Bar
Association. Mr.
Smith serves as a Commissioner on the Ethics Commission of the
City and County of
Honolulu and as a
member of the Board of Directors of the Early School also located in Honolulu.
